Generation Unbound PDF
By:Isabel V. Sawhill
Published on 2014-09-25 by Brookings Institution Press

Over half of all births to young adults in the United States now occur outside of marriage, and many are unplanned. The result is increased poverty and inequality for children. The left argues for more social support for unmarried parents; the right argues for a return to traditional marriage. In Generation Unbound, Isabel V. Sawhill offers a third approach: change |drifters| into |planners.| In a well-written and accessible survey of the impact of family structure on child well-being, Sawhill contrasts |planners,| who are delaying parenthood until after they marry, with |drifters,| who are having unplanned children early and outside of marriage. These two distinct patterns are contributing to an emerging class divide and threatening social mobility in the United States. Sawhill draws on insights from the new field of behavioral economics, showing that it is possible, by changing the default, to move from a culture that accepts a high number of unplanned pregnancies to a culture in which adults only have children when they are ready to be a parent.

Published on 2015-03-28 by Gower Publishing, Ltd.

In today's connected global marketplace, success and failure is bound up with the management of your inter-organisational partnerships. Competition is no longer between individual organisations but between alliances of companies and networks of supply chains. Richard Gibbs and Andrew Humphries provide a practical guide to the management process and skill sets needed for co-ordinating the business activities that are essential to creating a competitive advantage. Their eight partnership types developed from earlier research help readers adapt their relationship strategies to the different opportunities that present themselves and focus their greatest time and resources on the collaborations that offer the greatest value. The text includes an explanation of the context for collaboration, the principles and drivers for success, as well as techniques for appraisal and management. This is an excellent overview of the tools, techniques and philosophies behind an enterprise’s successful management of its strategically important relationships. Enterprise Relationship Management will help ensure your organisation has the requisite ability to form, manage, retire and exit partnerships in a fluid and agile way. Whether you are in sales or marketing or finance and operations, this book will show you how to get the most from your partnerships.

Surviving Supply Chain Integration PDF Free

Surviving Supply Chain Integration PDF
By:National Research Council,Division on Engineering and Physical Sciences,Board on Manufacturing and Engineering Design,Commission on Engineering and Technical Systems,Committee on Supply Chain Integration
Published on 2000-03-23 by National Academies Press

The managed flow of goods and information from raw material to final sale also known as a |supply chain| affects everything--from the U.S. gross domestic product to where you can buy your jeans. The nature of a company's supply chain has a significant effect on its success or failure--as in the success of Dell Computer's make-to-order system and the failure of General Motor's vertical integration during the 1998 United Auto Workers strike. Supply Chain Integration looks at this crucial component of business at a time when product design, manufacture, and delivery are changing radically and globally. This book explores the benefits of continuously improving the relationship between the firm, its suppliers, and its customers to ensure the highest added value. This book identifies the state-of-the-art developments that contribute to the success of vertical tiers of suppliers and relates these developments to the capabilities that small and medium-sized manufacturers must have to be viable participants in this system. Strategies for attaining these capabilities through manufacturing extension centers and other technical assistance providers at the national, state, and local level are suggested. This book identifies action steps for small and medium-sized manufacturers--the |seed corn| of business start-up and development--to improve supply chain management. The book examines supply chain models from consultant firms, universities, manufacturers, and associations. Topics include the roles of suppliers and other supply chain participants, the rise of outsourcing, the importance of information management, the natural tension between buyer and seller, sources of assistance to small and medium-sized firms, and a host of other issues. Supply Chain Integration will be of interest to industry policymakers, economists, researchers, business leaders, and forward-thinking executives.

Engines of Privilege PDF
By:David Kynaston,Francis Green
Published on 2019-02-07 by Bloomsbury Publishing

A rigorous, compelling and balanced examination of the British public school system and the inequalities it entrenches. Private schools are institutions that children who are already privileged attend and have those privileges further entrenched, almost certainly for life, through a high-quality, richly-resourced education. The Engines of Privilege contends that in a society that mouths the virtues of equality of opportunity, of fairness and of social cohesion, the continuation of this educational apartheid amounts to an act of national self-harm that does all of us serious damage. Intrinsic to any vision of the future of Britain has to be the nature of our educational system. Yet the quality of conversation on the issue of private education remains surprisingly sterile, patchy and highly subjective. Accessible, evidence-based and inclusive, Engines of Privilege aims to kick-start a long overdue national debate. Clear, vigorous prose is combined with forensic analysis to compelling effect, illuminating the painful contrast between the importance of private schools in British society and the near-absence of serious, policy-making debate, above all on the left.

Christianity and the University Experience PDF
By:Mathew Guest,Kristin Aune,Sonya Sharma,Rob Warner
Published on 2013-09-12 by A&C Black

What impact does the experience of university have on Christian students? Are universities a force for secularisation? Is student faith enduring, or a passing phase? Universities are often associated with a sceptical attitude towards religion. Many assume that academic study leads students away from any existing religious convictions, heightening the appeal of a rationalist secularism increasingly dominant in wider society. And yet Christianity remains highly visible on university campuses and continues to be a prominent identity marker in the lives of many students. Analysing over 4,000 responses to a national survey of students and nearly 100 interviews with students and those working with them, this book examines Christianity in universities across England. It explores the beliefs, values and practices of Christian students. It reveals how the university experience influences their Christian identities, and the influence Christian students have upon university life. Christianity and the University Experience makes fascinating reading for anyone interested in the survival and evolution of religion in the contemporary world. It offers fresh insights relevant to those working with Christian students, including churches, chaplaincies and student organisations, as well as policy-makers and university managers interested in the significance of religion for education, social responsibility and social cohesion.

My Odyssey, My Country PDF
By:Cephas Sallem Kan Tardzer
Published on 2012-05-17 by Xlibris Corporation

The author recollects his quest of a better future for himself, his family, and his native country stemming from ideals he obtained from his childhood Western education and conversion to the Christian faith. His hopes were thrwarated by Nigerias political and religious troubles resulting in his exile to America, then seeing his family broken time and again. Though forthrightly recalling these failures, their remain for the author: his faith in God, his love for his family and countrymen, and his hope for the future of both. These memoirs include some plactical advice for Nigeria that are based on the beginnings of his adopted United States of America. There is needed a Plymouth Rock type of partnership between government and an enterprising community of faith. From pioneering studies developed by the author and his friends, Cephas Tardzer explains how this can begin in Benue State. Duffel bag pictured on front cover is worn by the elders of the authors TIV tribe, symbolizing their responsibility for the welfare of the people.
